Alternative Allergies Treatment

An allergy is generally considered to be a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. Two out of every ten people suffer from some form of allergy.

Allergic reactions occur in the form of an unnatural immune system response when the immune system reacts to normally harmless substances in the environment like dust, mold, pets, pollen, trees or food. A substance that causes a reaction is called an allergen.

When an allergen enters your body it responds by producing histamines which cause most of the symptoms associated with airborne allergies, such as watery eyes and nasal stuffiness.

Allergy symptoms manifest themselves in three categories:

  • Mild (watery, itchy eyes, sneezing, nasal congestion)
  • Moderate (rashes, hives, difficulty breathing)
  • Severe (abdominal pain, vomiting, swelling, difficulty breathing and swallowing, mental confusion or a severe drop in blood pressure)

Studies show that many allergies are inherited by the sufferer. If one parent is allergic, there is a 50% chance that any offspring will be allergic; if both parents have allergies, the risk increases to 75%. Other factors that influence the development of allergies include pollution, infections, hormones and smoking.

How Can Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Help Those with Allergies?

National Upper Cervical Chiropractic procedures utilize a gentle touch and a controlled adjustment to the Atlas, the first vertebra of the spine. This adjustment can correct any misalignments in the spinal column which may irritate the nerves that run from the brain and spinal cord to the blood vessels in the head.

The NUCCA adjustment is designed to correct imbalances in the nervous and immune systems which alleviate many allergy conditions in their entirety. The immune system is directly controlled by the nervous system. An over reactive or sensitive immune system can result in an irritated or imbalanced nervous system.

Many health conditions you experience are the direct result of trauma to the upper cervical spine, including whiplash, accident or injury (e.g., sports-related injuries, falls, skiing accidents, etc.) and chronic poor posture.

Using diagnostic testing that includes precision x-rays and thermographic scans, NUCCA chiropractors locate the area of misalignment, apply a series of gentle adjustments to the upper cervical spine and remedy the misalignment.

This adjustment aids in relieving the symptoms associated with an allergic reaction instead of just masking the symptoms as prescription and over-the-counter medications are designed to do. Although upper cervical care does not offer a cure for allergies, patients may notice a decrease in the frequency and severity of their symptoms.

Post-adjustment x-rays and Thermographic/Surface EMG scans are taken to ensure that a successful spinal correction has taken place.
